Assistant Maintenance Manager
Position Summary
Lakeshore Sport & Fitness is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance operations for our 160,000+ square foot, year-round facility. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance department while ensuring the safety, functionality, and appearance of one of Chicago's premier athletic and recreation facilities.
The ideal candidate is a proven leader with extensive facilities maintenance experience and a strong background managing maintenance teams. This individual will lead by example, providing technical expertise while planning, prioritizing, and coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance activities. The Assistant Maintenance Manager will foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and exceptional service while ensuring the facility consistently meets the high expectations of our members, guests, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead, supervise, coach, and develop a maintenance team, providing direction, accountability, and performance feedback.
- Manage daily maintenance operations, assigning work based on priorities, staff capabilities, and operational needs.
- Develop and oversee preventative maintenance schedules for all building systems and equipment.
- Oversee facility preparation for community events, including room setup, equipment placement, and post-event restoration.
- Conduct routine facility inspections to identify maintenance needs and proactively address issues before they become larger problems.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and capital improvement projects.
- Monitor maintenance inventory, equipment, tools, and supplies while maintaining appropriate stock levels.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Communicate maintenance priorities, project updates, and facility concerns with senior leadership and other departments.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, preventative maintenance logs, and work order documentation.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations and provide leadership during after-hours or critical facility issues as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on commercial building or facilities maintenance experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing teams of 5 or more employees.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Extensive experience with carpentry, plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programs within a large commercial, hospitality, recreation, healthcare, or similar facility.
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Experience supervising employee performance, scheduling, coaching, and team development.
- Ability to read blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
- Strong computer skills with experience using work order or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or willingness to obtain.
- Experience maintaining fitness clubs, recreation centers, hotels, educational facilities, or other large commercial buildings.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
